The Pontifical Catholic University of Chile is calling for applications for two, tenure-track, full-time faculty positions for research and teaching in the field of Veterinary Anatomy or Veterinary Histology and Embryology. The candidates will join the initial group of professors who will create the future Veterinary Medicine program at the University.

Duties: The duties associated with the position include creating a strong and independent research program, teaching and outreach.

The candidates should conduct high-impact research in the field of Veterinary Anatomy (one position) or Veterinary Histology and Embryology (one position).

For the Veterinary Anatomy Position, his/her teaching work must be geared towards the study of the structure and functioning of the animal organism, through systematic, descriptive and topographic exploration of the different systems.

For the Veterinary Histology and embryology Position, his/her teaching work must be geared towards the study of the functioning of cells, tissues and organs, considering their microscopic structure and ontogenic development.

In both cases, teaching must also address the differences between the main domestic species.

Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and research experience.

 

Requirements:

Doctor in Veterinary Medicine or bachelor degree in Veterinary Science and a Ph.D. degree. It is not necessary for candidates to speak Spanish at the time of applying. Nonetheless, they must be prepared to learn the language to participate in teaching activities when the program opens. Applicants should be proactive in pursuing independent lines of research, able to work collaboratively, and show evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Candidates must be highly motivated to continuously improve their teaching skills, with a special inclination towards the implementation of participatory learning methods and expressing a genuine interest in tutoring students at all levels of their educational career.

Documents: 

  1. Research statement (in English) indicating immediate and long-term goals for your research plan. Detail potential collaboration networks with other researchers and plans for interactions with scientists in Chile and other countries.
  2. Teaching statement of purpose (in English) indicating why you should be considered for the position and your plans for teaching. Be as specific as possible, e.g. giving examples of how you aim to transfer your knowledge to undergraduate and graduate students.
  3. Up-to-date curriculum vitae in English.
  4. In addition, candidates should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be emailed directly by the signatories.

Once all application materials have been received, the applicant will be contacted within two months and informed whether his/her application has been accepted for further consideration. If this initial screening is successful, the candidate will be asked to give a lecture on his/her current research topics and hold interviews with the Selection Committee. 

The CV must be organized along the following lines:

  1. Personal background: name, address, contact telephone (with country and city codes), e-mail address, web page (if any).
  2. Education: list of all degrees or professional titles obtained with granting institutions and dates.
  3. Research
    1. List of ISI journal publications. The five most relevant ISI publications must be included here with a paragraph that explains the impact of these studies on Veterinary Science.
    2. Participation in research projects indicating your role, dates and institution.
    3. List of other publications such as non-ISI Journals, reports, books or book chapters, attended conferences, research projects participated in, patents, etc.  
  4. Teaching experience indicating your interest in the field and institutions in which you have worked.
  5. Professional experience: institutions in which you have worked in the professional field and a brief description of your activities and dates.
  6. Other: grants and awards, computing skills, languages, other background information that you consider relevant.
